Staffing News:
With the end of school often comes a change in staffing assignments. We bid a fond farewell to the following staff as their term assignments have ended: Miss Webb, Miss Werger, Mr. Singh, Mr. Creech and Mr. Boggs. We must also say goodbye to Mr. McLeman, who has been reassigned to Coronation Public School. Even though he was our Vice-Principal for just one year, Mr. McLeman made a positive impact on Woodland Park. We wish them all good luck in their future careers!
After a lengthy teaching career, Mrs. Leonhard has decided to retire. She has taught primary health and music here at Woodland Park for the past 11 and is looking forward to spending extra time with her family. Best wishes Mrs. Leonhard – you will be missed!
And lastly we will say “à plus tard” to Madame Tkaczuk, who is taking a one-year leave of absence. We look forward to seeing Madame back in September 2017.
We welcome the following new teachers — Mr. Whicher, Miss Lundy, Mrs. Friesen, Miss Thorpe and Mrs. Sherrard to the Woodland Park Staff, and we welcome back Mrs. Beattie who is returning after an extended maternity leave. Please join us in giving them a big Woodland Park welcome!

Class Lists
Many students and parents are curious to know before the doors open on September 6th about the class placement for the school year. The class lists will be posted on the front doors of the school at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, September 2nd. Student names will appear by class, first name and last initial only, to protect the confidentiality of our students.
When the bell rings on Tuesday, September 6th, students are asked to wait on the tarmac at the rear of the school for their assigned teacher. Students will be escorted to their rooms by their teachers. Parents are kindly reminded to say their “good-byes” and allow their children to line up with their classmates and teachers. All Junior and Senior Kindergarten children will be notified of their classes and start date at the beginning of July through a personal letter.
WRDSB has gone online and paperless!
In an effort to reduce costs and save paper, some of the information that has previously been sent home with students at the beginning of the school year will only be available on our school website (wpk.wrdsb.ca). This package contains information regarding school year startup such as the school year calendar, safe schools protocol and other important information that may be helpful for a successful year in school. Beginning in late August parents can access this information by clicking on the “School Year Information 2016-2017” link on our website. A limited number of paper copies will be available. If you require a hard copy of this package, please call the school office.
Rather than producing a traditional newsletter, we will continue to send out Weekly Updates via School-Day, as well as posting the information on our website. We have had a very positive response from parents since going online with School-Day and are hopeful that we can get the remainder of families registered for September. School-Day is our online communication and cashless payment system. It can be accessed from any web browser (computer or cell phone) and gives parents real-time, secure access to up-to-date information as well as the ability to:
- Complete on-line payments for trips or other activities
- Register your child for extra-curricular events
- Approve permission forms instantly on-line
- Sign up for parent/teacher interviews
- Update your mobile device with calendar events specific to your child
- Minimize the risks associated with sending money to school with your child (“backpack delivery”) and reduce the environmental impact of photocopying permission forms and announcements
Moving over the summer?
If you are moving out of our area or you know someone moving into our area, please let us know when our office reopens on August 29th.
